The Maricopa County Library Council (MCLC) is sponsoring a scholarship program for library staff who have not yet attended their first national conference. This program provides financial support for the recipient to obtain national level experience as they develop, network, and learn innovative ways to lead our libraries and our profession into the future.

This scholarship can be used for in-person (if/when in-person conferences resume) AND for virtual conferences.

What does the scholarship program provide?

MCLC will award one (1), $1,500 scholarship for attendance at a national conference of professional interest. Selected conference must be held between February 1, 2021 to January 30, 2022.

Who is eligible?

Library staff who are employed by a library that is a member of MCLC and have not yet attended their first national conference.  Applicants must have worked for their Library for at least six months and must have their library director’s permission to attend the conference.

Scholarship recipients’ responsibilities:

  • Attendance at a variety of programs and exhibits at the conference.
  • Presentation about the conference to MCLC at an upcoming meeting.
  • Written report to recipient’s supervisor and library director.

How to apply:

Fill out the attached application and submit it to your library director for their approval.  Email the application and a letter of support from your supervisor or director to Kira Peters at by Monday, February 1, 2021.

Selection Process

A Selection Committee comprised of MCLC members will select the scholarship recipient on the basis of application review.

MCLC Chair via email will notify recipient by February 25, 2021.
